On This Day, 15 August 2013, Alfie Boe Sang…

The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine at Joe’s Pub, NYC:

This intimate set was a showcase for the American version of Storyteller, which was due for release in the USA at that time.  A whole host of US fans were able to attend, which is very lucky for everyone else, resulting in plenty of videos of the set.  The show has a relaxed feel and the two musicians worked so well with Alfie, despite them only having rehearsed with Alfie for a short time.  And, shallowly, it’s another excuse to see Alfie with his sexy specs. I chose this song as it’s more indicative of Storyteller, although I was sorely tempted by A Vucchella.

The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine was written by Bob Gaudio and and Bob Crewe for Franki Valli but the song wasn’t a hit until recorded by The Walker Brothers in 1966:

Oh, brings back so many lovely memories! What a very special night this was! And Norm Lewis sat right over our left shoulders just behind us in the audience. And special hugs out on the pavement after the show! Sarah was there, and got to talk with Neil, Alfie’s manager at the time. Yes indeed, a very special night!

Oh my goodness Jane, much as I love A Vucchella I’m glad you chose this! He is just adorable, he can’t keep still even when he’s sitting down, and those specs……….xx
