Getting to Know The Baritone – Mark Llewelyn Evans

As a fan of Alfie Boe, I’m constantly being introduced to music and artists that are new to me; in recent months, I’ve noticed that many of my Alfie friends have been talking about “The Baritone” aka Mark Llewelyn Evans.  I have been thinking of having a guest blog but wasn’t too sure who the subject should be and who should write it.  Mark’s use of social media made him the ideal candidate and, having recently worked with him, I chose Nikki Lewis to write it; here is Nikki’s take on Mark Llewelyn Evans:

I was first introduced to Mark Llewelyn Evans through a friend, Julie, who’d heard Mark in concert with his brother Wynne at Canary Wharf, London. So, together with a handful of friends, I trotted along to hear Mark in HMS Pinafore at the Barbican on the afternoon of 11 March 2012. That rich baritone voice & charismatic charm captured my attention right from the start. I was ‘hooked’!

Mark has a cream rich voice which together with his deep dark brown eyes, tells you a story when he sings. You’re taken fully into that moment. He is a genuinely talented & lovely guy, who radiates happiness, smiles & gives his all to his audiences. It’s quite something to be comfortable singing in front of an opera house audience of 2,000 or singing to 75,000 rugby fans in a stadium or to an intimate room. Not surprising then that Guy Richie asked him to play Don Giovanni in his movie Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows.

Mark has two solo albums out there, ‘Let the Light In’, his debut CD & the more recent ‘This Guy’s in Love’. The former is a more classical mix of songs from ‘Cinema Paradiso’ to ‘The Prayer’. ‘This Guy’s in Love’ is more of a romantic love song album featuring the like of ‘Feels Like Home’ & ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’. The video below is from this latest album:

Mark also has a charity single available – a collaboration with the Welsh Guards. ‘Tell My Father‘  was released to raise funds for the Guards Afghanistan Appeal and helped them raise over £50,000. Mark regularly supports charity events & recently gave a concert in Naples, US to raise funds for the Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors (TAPS) in South Florida.

Most excitedly, Mark is coming to London on the evening of 3 May for one night at The Pheasantry, Chelsea. Not only will the evening be filled with wonderful songs sung by that lush baritone voice, but full of entertainment, comedy & plenty of laughter. It is a night not to miss.
