Alfie Boe and Strictly: Two of My Favourite Things!

Don’t get too excited when you read this – Alfie’s not doing Strictly Come Dancing this year as he’s obviously too busy being a magnificent Jean Valjean on Broadway.  However, that doesn’t stop us looking back at the last few years at what has become a staple in his promotional schedule.  It’s easy to see why this has become the case and why so many singers appear year after year; sales figures always increase the week after Strictly is shown. It’s a double joy for me to see Alfie on Strictly as Strictly is my very favourite programme on TV – I have watched every single episode, have my favourite celebs, favourite dancers and can’t understand people who don’t love it too.  Anyone with me?  If you’re not with me, maybe this post and playlist is just not for you!

A good many Strictly fans can’t bear the professional dancers coming on while the guest artist sings on the results show, but I love it – if you’re not keen on the singer, the dancers are always wonderful.  Having said that, I’m not that keen on the first video of the lot.  Eagle eyed fans will remember that the following week, Alfie recorded his Bring Him Home tour DVD at the Royal Festival Hall and said “it’s not as good without the dancers, is it” when they came to the Bond Medley part of the concert.  Funny to think that at this point, I watched this show and had not the slightest inkling who Alfie was – this song did nothing for me and I’m still not that keen or on the whole album it belongs to (but don’t tell anyone!).

My favourite video of this playlist is Bridge Over Troubled Water for two reasons: Alfie’s gorgeous voice and Artem, the male pro dancer.  Not many men could make me look at them when Alfie’s on screen but Artem can!

As for the video showing Kevin and Karen Clifton (Bring Him Home 2013), interesting fact for you – Alfie was a guest at their wedding this summer.  No idea whether or not he sang!

No comment on 2014’s offering but a whole lot of fun was had with Alfie’s two appearances on the sister programme, It Takes Two when Alfie unhesitatingly showed his complete lack of knowledge about dancing and any of the celebrities taking part.  He didn’t sound too sure about the music either which is why he was there in the first place I suspect!

Each year, people wonder if Alfie would ever be induced to take part in Strictly and I’m sure that the answer would be negative; he’s too busy and still going strong with his career.  Perhaps a Christmas or Children In need Special though?  Not such a heavy time commitment and the judges are always much nicer, even Craig!  Anyway, a girl can dream.

Alfie’s albums are all available here and the Bring Him Home DVD is also available:

Friday Round Up with Alfie Boe: No. 4

What an exciting time we’ve had this week – to start off, Alfie Boe’s UK Tour kicked off in Newcastle, Liverpool, Glasgow, Nottingham and, tonight, Leeds:

Alfie appeared on Strictly on Sunday with Andre Rieu:

Hope the exposure pushes sales of Serenata!

Possibly the most exciting thing to happen is the announcement that Alfie will appear in Quadrophenia at the Royal Albert Hall next July – click here for tickets.

Next post will be a review of Leeds and Manchester!

Alfie Boe: Strictly Radio Wales

This weekend has been a busy one for Alfie; not only did he start his UK Tour in Newcastle and Liverpool but he also appeared on BBC TV’s Strictly Come Dancing:

I don’t think that this slower Volare showed off Serenata or Alfie to the best effect but the dancers were fabulous and the exposure is great for Alfie.

Not satisfied with this, Alfie’s interview with Beverley Hughes on BBC Radio Wales aired last night.  Listening to Beverley interview anyone is always a pleasure as she really does her research and as an opera singer is hugely knowledgeable about music – and here we learnt that Alfie and Beverley both love pilchards for breakfast.

Listening to Alfie talking about Serenata, in particular, Addio Sogni Di Gloria, I was struck by how much Alfie still wants to do in his career; he says that if it all ended tomorrow he would be thankful for everything so far but disappointed in his as yet unfulfilled ambitions.  Also nice to hear him talk about the performance that meant the most…and it’s not the one you might think!  We also got to hear a great selection of Alfie’s songs over the years, with obviously an emphasis on Serenata.

Alfie Boe’s Serenata is available now:

Alfie Boe on Strictly It Takes Two and Weekend Wogan

Alfie Boe fans everywhere will rejoice that they can listen to his dulcet tones on Weekend Wogan this Sunday, 2 November.

Before that (sadly only in UK) we get to see Alfie display his dance knowledge, or lack thereof as the case may be, on Strictly’s weekday show, It Takes Two.  Alfie was a guest on the Friday panel in 2012 and it was comical for many reasons, not all of them planned!  He displayed his talent for comedy falls and also his complete lack of knowledge about any of the dances or the competitors – it was very amusing!  Luckily for him, he had recently duetted with Kimberly Walsh, on f the then contestants so he picked her for the eventual winner (she made the final) and this time he’s in luck once again.  Steve Backshall, whom Alfie knows, is a contestant this year and is still in the show so hopefully Alfie will have watched some of his dances and can talk about them with even a tiny bit of knowledge!

Don’t forget, if we can get #AlfieBoeSerenata trending, it all helps towards sales!
